In 2004, the\u00a0Guido Venosta European Foundation (FEGV)<\/b>\u00a0established the\u00a0Il Ponte<\/i>\u00a0Award to create an annual event that would bring together the Foundation\u2019s supporters while strongly embodying the spirit reflected in Guido Venosta\u2019s writings and interviews. In collaboration with the Foundation\u2019s Scientific Committee, a form of recognition was designed to highlight and reward key figures in the successful integration of\u00a0economy and ethics<\/b>.<\/p>\n
The award was granted each year to\u00a0individuals or organizations that had achieved, through the specificities of their field, a meaningful transfer of values between the profit and nonprofit sectors<\/b>\u2014those who had successfully bridged two seemingly opposing worlds and, in doing so, brought society a step closer to the ideal of coherence envisioned by Guido Venosta.<\/p>\n
The image of a\u00a0bridge<\/i>\u00a0was chosen to symbolize the mission of the FEGV. The award itself was a\u00a0laser-cut steel design object<\/b>\u00a0composed of the letters forming the phrase\u00a0\u201cDAL PROFIT AL NONPROFIT\u201d<\/i>\u00a0(From Profit to Nonprofit<\/i>). Naturally, the design was created by\u00a0Carla Venosta<\/b>\u2014a highly renowned designer and two-time winner of the prestigious\u00a0Compasso d\u2019Oro<\/i>, the oldest and most esteemed design award\u2014together with\u00a0Sebastiano Cogoli and Gianfaroli<\/b>. As Carla herself wrote:<\/p>\n
\u201cMy work as a designer has left a clear mark both on the project framework and on the Foundation\u2019s visual identity, visible in the covers, graphics, and design of the award itself.\u201d<\/p>\n
Over its ten-year span, the\u00a0Il Ponte<\/i>\u00a0Award recognized individuals and institutions in a setting that brought together Milan\u2019s\u00a0elite and beyond<\/b>\u2014from\u00a0Marco Tronchetti Provera<\/b>, the first award recipient for his foundation named after his father\u00a0Silvio<\/b>, to\u00a0Opera San Francesco per i Poveri di Milano<\/b>, which successfully evolved from traditional charity to efficient assistance, as well as physicians, philanthropists, and institutions.<\/p>\n
The final award in\u00a02014<\/b>\u00a0bore the influence of both\u00a0Carla<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0Giorgina Venosta<\/b>, Guido\u2019s daughter, who had long been active in the social sector and was becoming increasingly involved in the Foundation as Carla\u2019s health declined. Giorgina presented the award<\/p>\n
\u201cwithin the framework of\u00a0Design Week<\/i>, when the world of culture is fully focused on creative design on a global scale.\u201d<\/p>\n
The last recipient was\u00a0Massimo Vignelli<\/b>, a celebrated designer who had\u00a0\u201cbecome a bridge\u201d across multiple projects and diverse cultural landscapes<\/b>, embodying the effort to create a shared language that fosters understanding, knowledge, and exchange.<\/p>\n
A truly fitting award for what journalist\u00a0Lina Sotis<\/b>\u00a0described in the third edition (2007<\/i>) as the recognition of\u00a0\u201cthe last of Milan\u2019s great gentlemen\u201d<\/i>. In her editorial,\u00a0Awards for Volunteers in Memory of a Gentleman<\/i>, she wrote:<\/p>\n
\u201cGuido Venosta was a man of\u00a0elegance<\/b>\u2014in spirit, in thought, and in appearance. He passed away in 1998, yet for decades he represented the essence of a\u00a0sober, industrious Milan that never compromised<\/b>. (…) Venosta has been gone for almost ten years, but no one in the city, not even among the distinguished elders of Milan\u2019s elite and aristocracy, has managed to take his place. His judgment, his advice, his words always set the right course. (…).\u201d<\/p>\n
Certainly, through his writings,\u00a0he has done so for the FEGV<\/b>.<\/p>\n

Alongside the\u00a0Il Ponte<\/i>\u00a0Award,\u00a0another annual recognition was established<\/b>: the\u00a0Medal of Gratitude<\/b>, awarded to the Foundation\u2019s\u00a0active supporters<\/b>\u2014friends who had distinguished themselves through\u00a0exceptional contributions<\/b>\u00a0in providing concrete support and collaboration across various initiatives.<\/p>\n
Over\u00a040 individuals<\/b>\u00a0were honored across different editions, including\u00a0notable figures from the worlds of industry, politics, culture, and science<\/b>\u2014from\u00a0Guido Vergani<\/b>\u00a0to\u00a0Giuseppe Barbiano di Belgiojoso<\/b>, from\u00a0Ferruccio de Bortoli<\/b>to\u00a0Gabriele Albertini<\/b>, from\u00a0Gillo Dorfles<\/b>\u00a0to\u00a0Salvatore Veca<\/b>.<\/p>\n
