Shelter of Solidarity for the Homeless in Lecco, in collaboration with Caritas

Objectives and activities carried out, in summary

The “Ostello della Solidarietà” project was conceived to address the needs of homeless individuals in the Lecco area, a need that intensified following the coronavirus emergency. It was established under the responsibility of Caritas Ambrosiana.

The beneficiaries are men and women without a home, experiencing severe marginalization, aged over 18, and with little or no income. The youngest guest was a 19-year-old boy, while the oldest was a 73-year-old man.

The Ostello della Solidarietà is a low-threshold service, characterized by maximum accessibility, and is open 24 hours a day. It can accommodate up to 25 people. Social (re)insertion projects for the guests are planned in cooperation with specialized services. Every guest is also provided with a meal service and a medical examination to assess their health status.

Thanks to the ample outdoor spaces available, guests and volunteers have dedicated themselves to maintaining the garden and the vegetable patch, enhancing not only the environment but also their own skills. The community life at the Ostello della Solidarietà helps every guest feel at home.
